Burley in Wharfedale and Burley Woodhead are both part Wharfedale Ward (formerly Rombalds Ward) on Bradford Council. The two are connected by Moor Lane, which runs down from Burley Moor to Station Road.

Both the village of Burley in Wharfedale and the hamlet of Burley Woodhead, at the foot of Burley Moor, have a strong sense of community and are great places to live and work. They lie between Ilkley and Otley, around 12-14 miles from Leeds and Bradford.

Burley in Wharfedale has:

  • A number of shops and independent retailers
  • Several pubs, clubs, restaurants and take-aways
  • Serveral good nurseries and two good primary schools – Burley Oaks and Burley & Woodhead
  • Greenholme Mills, with a number of businesses
  • The headquarters for a major company, Findel Plc in Burley House
  • An adult education and learndirect centre (Burley Grange)
  • A recently refurbished Community Building (the Queens Hall)
  • A number of other community facilities, such as the Roundhouse
  • Two village greens – the main Village Green and the almost adjoining Burley House Field
  • An active local community with a Parish Council and Community Council and a wide range of community groups
  • A nature reserve maintained by volunteers (Sun Lane nature reserve)
  • A railway station with connections to Leeds, Bradford and Ilkley
  • A range of bus services, including Leeds, Ilkley and Skipton
  • A small amount of social housing and sheltered accommodation
  • Access to the river Wharfe, with access to Askwith in the other side of the valley via a ford and stones (but no bridge!)
  • A shortage of car parking!

Local matters are also covered to a lesser extent in the Yorkshire Post and Yorkshire Evening Post, the Post’s free weekly, the Wharfe Valley Times.
